Building a home is an exciting process, and understanding what happens at each stage makes it even more rewarding. In this edition of the Buyer’s Blueprint, we walk you through what to expect throughout our build process.

How long does it take Homes by New Era to build a home?

At Homes by New Era, our typical build time is approximately 6–8 months from the start of construction to possession.
That said, timelines can vary depending on a few key factors, including:
• Weather conditions
• Permit and approval timelines
• Time of year
• The complexity and customization of your home
While delays can occasionally happen, our team works hard to keep your build on schedule and keep you informed every step of the way.

1) Condition Removal and Permits
2) Excavation & Foundation
3) Framing
4) Rough In Stage
5) Installation + Drywall
6) Paint + Finishing
7) Flooring
8) Cabinet installation
9) Lighting Installation
10) Carpet Installation
11) Final Inspections
12) Possession Day

1) Condition Removal and Permits (2–3 Weeks)
Once conditions are removed, your home is officially sold to you, and that’s when our team gets to work behind the scenes.
During this stage:

  • Final blueprint revisions are made
  • Exterior selections are selected
  • Plans are submitted for city permits and approvals.

2) Excavation & Foundation (~2 Weeks)
Once permits are approved, we break ground! During this stage the lot is excavated, and foundation is poured.

3) Framing (2 -3 Weeks)
At the framing stage, your home truly starts to take shape. This is when the structural bones of the home go up, and the layout becomes visible. This process typically takes 2–3 weeks. At this point, all your interior selections will be due.

4) Rough In Stage (~3 Weeks)
At this stage, we install HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems in your home, this process can take up to three works, typically at this time a builder representative will do your first walkthrough of the home with you.

5) Installation + Drywall (~ 2 weeks)
Once all rough-in inspections have passed, your home begins to feel more complete. At this stage, insulation and drywall are installed, and you can start visualizing your spaces more clearly.

6) Paint + Finishing (1–2 Weeks)
Details start coming together at the stage, feature walls and baseboards go in, the home now has some color to it!

7) Flooring (1–2 Weeks)
At this stage, LVP and tile are installed, bringing more character and warmth to your home.

8) Cabinet installation + Lighting + Carpet (1–2 Weeks)
At this point we are adding the finishing touches to your home cabinets, lighting, and carpet are the last to go in.

9) Final Inspections (1 Week)
Before the pre-possession walkthrough, everything is carefully reviewed. Final inspections are completed by both the city and our team to ensure everything meets our quality standards. At this point, the home is move-in ready.

10) Possession Day
The big day has arrived, you receive the keys to your new home and officially move in.
